Responsibilities

• Manage federal, state, and local tax compliance activities while ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Research and interpret tax laws, regulations, and legislative changes to identify opportunities and minimize tax liabilities.
• Provide guidance and consultation to business partners on tax-related matters and support cross-functional initiatives.
• Coordinate and manage tax audits, responding to inquiries and maintaining productive relationships with external auditors and taxing authorities.
• Assist with tax provisions, financial reporting, and tax planning strategies.
• Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, leverage technology, and increase operational efficiencies.
• Lead or participate in department and enterprise-wide projects that impact tax reporting or compliance.
• Mentor and develop team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field.
• Eight or more years of progressive tax experience, preferably with public accounting and/or a large corporate tax department.
• CPA, JD, Enrolled Agent, MBA, or other relevant professional designation preferred.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and financial reporting requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
• Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Adaptive Solutions Group is seeking a Sales & Use Tax Manager for a full-time opportunity in the Midwest region.
Responsibilities

• 
  Department Leadership: Manage and mentor a tax team, including senior and staff-level accountants. Oversee workflow, coach team members, and assist in hiring, training, and development.
  
• 
  Tax Compliance: Supervise preparation and filing of a high volume of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states. Respond to escalated inquiries from tax authorities, vendors, and internal teams.
  
• 
  Tax Strategy & Guidance: Monitor and interpret changes in tax laws, maintain tax reference tools and training resources, oversee relationships with external tax providers, and advise on tax implications for business transactions.
  
• 
  Audit Management: Conduct periodic internal audits to ensure compliance, manage jurisdictional audits, provide required documentation, and address audit findings with supporting research and analysis.
  
• 
  Other Duties: Support special projects and related tax responsibilities as assigned.
  

Required Qualifications

• 
  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  
• 
  Minimum of 10 years of sales and use tax experience with strong multi-state taxation expertise.
  
• 
  Background in areas such as construction taxability, exemption management, return preparation (in-house or outsourced), and tax calculation software.
  
• 
  Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables) with experience in tax software (e.g., Vertex, CCH SureTax) and ERP systems.
  
• 
  Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  
• 
  Leadership experience managing and developing teams.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 
  International taxation experience.
  
• 
  Tax programming or ERP integration knowledge.
