We are currently looking for a Systems Administrator to join our team.


Position Summary:
  • Provide specialized work in supporting information technology equipment and systems for the business, research, and instructional functions of customers.
  • Position involves the advanced use of software and/or hardware tools to provide ongoing services, and responsibilities require expertise with core infrastructure elements and how they interrelate to provide a cohesive computing environment.
  • Position may be more broadly based, requiring knowledge regarding installation, and modification of software and hardware, testing, and documentation on a variety of platforms.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Gather customer information and determine resolution path regarding moderately complex client issues by analyzing the symptoms and identifying/resolving the underlying problem.
  • Escalate complex issues to higher level when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues for a variety of operating systems.
  • Be familiar with Dell server and workstation hardware, software, and infrastructure.
  • Be familiar or experienced with server virtualization technologies and dependent hardware/software stacks.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix-based operating systems with an emphasis on Linux usage, optimization, and integration.
  • Working knowledge of various Linux containerization technologies.
  • Train staff about potential uses of existing technology.
  • Provide individual training and support on request.
  • Support a wide variety of hardware and software (Windows/Linux) resources serving a mixed clinical/research organization.
  • Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources.
  • Working knowledge of common Unix and Windows scripting languages.
  • Monitor and maintain technology to ensure maximum access.  Primary activities include:
  • Troubleshoot all technology issues.
  • Maintain log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance.
  • Make recommendations about purchase of technology resources.
  • Research current and potential resources and services.
  • Connect and setup hardware.
  • Load all required software.
  • Provide network accounts and passwords as required.
  • Monitor security of all technology.
  • Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate.


Required Qualifications
  • 4-year college or university with a degree in IT or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or a closely related field required.
  • Additional experience in any of these fields may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis


Preferred Qualifications
  • Planning and Organizing:  Ability to apply technical judgment to plan and organize tasks to achieve desired outcomes and to effectively manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Project Management:  Ability to manage highly complex projects that include software installation and migration.
  • Technical knowledge:  Ability to make sophisticated modifications and modify complex operating software programming. 
  • In-depth knowledge of automated operations software and its functioning related to other software.
  • Technical Solution Development:  Ability to identify trends in re-occurring problems and develop appropriate solutions. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to analyze operation performance to develop advanced solutions for improvement. 
  • Ability to analyze appropriate new technologies and determine implementation based on research.
  • Technical Support:  Serves as a resource in solving problems of high complexity. 
  • Knowledge of advanced systems analysis and troubleshooting procedures to independently resolve problems.
  • Consultancy Skills:  Ability to consult with senior level decision-makers on an on-going basis to develop long-range strategic alternatives. 
  • Ability to analyze and assess client needs to develop effective and appropriate solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix-based Operating systems and Linux Usage, optimization and integration.
  • Familiar or experienced with server virtualization technologies and dependent hardware/software stacks.
