We are currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities
Manage support operations, project implementation, and Supervisory Staff positions.
Work independently and as a team to lead operations functions to include staff supervision (team leads, supervisors, and managers), functional area management, client relationship management, project coordination and implementation, issue analysis and resolution.
Primarily a remote position with ability to meet in person for meetings and training, as requested.
Ability to travel between locations, as needed.
Facilitate daily stand-up meetings to review support issues and facilitate resolution or escalation as appropriate.
Coordinate communications to researchers, as needed.
Develop and establish processes used in conducting Service Desk Operations.
Develop documentation for the utilization and support of applications.
Establish, monitor, and analyze metrics / KPIs used to measure support effectiveness and efficiency while recommending adjustments based on analysis.
Work with researchers to determine application needs.
Oversee multiple projects and ensure project timing is maintained.
Capable of gathering requirements from customers and facilitating the development of solutions.
Allocate resources as necessary to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
Manage interfaces between the engineering team and other teams to ensure smooth and effective relationships.
Investigate options for new or improved technologies to address customer business needs.
Establish and coordinate deployment, implementation, and migration plans.
Track and maintain all project hours spent by the engineering team.
Track and develop KPIs for the team using Agile methods and regularly communicate the status of such items.
Objectively evaluate team performance and develop resources by conducting quarterly and annual performance reviews.
Identify training needed by the team and individuals and prioritize accordingly.
Ensure proper implementation of policies and procedures such as time reporting.
Hiring and cultivating new talent.
Attend technical, leadership, and management training workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Maintain software development knowledge and best practice expertise.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and at least three years of supervisory or management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a computer or engineering related discipline or equivalent experience.
Five years of management experience in a higher education or enterprise environment.
Must possess strong technical background and aptitude to allow understanding, coordination, execution, and documentation of technology solutions.
Agile development methodologies and project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence, Planview.
Software design principals, object-oriented architecture, relational data modeling, and web interface design.
Linux software application stacks (databases, web applications, networks, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communications.
Experience with Docker, Swarm, Kubernetes, and Cloud Infrastructure (GCP, Azure) a plus.
Familiarity with software development languages such as Shell/Bash, Perl, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL.
Version control (Git, Bitbucket) and continuous Integration (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) platforms.
