We are currently looking for a Senior Data Communications Engineer to join our team.


Position Description
  • Determines appropriate network strategies in order to meet Firm requirements.
  • Develops, designs and maintains an effective network design for each office and data center including equipment, software,  services and infrastructure.
  • Participates in the selection of new hardware technologies and applications that will impact the network and performance of crucial production applications.
    Monitors proactively the network for problem resolution, including assisting other members of IS team and key vendors in  resolving network related problems related to degradation of key services.
  • Provides expertise in multiple technologies used by the firm in day to day production.
    Lead projects to upgrade the network including planning, testing and implementation of new and existing technologies.
  • Assists in peer reviews on new and existing technologies being implemented into production.
  • Mentors less experienced co-workers.
  • Effectively communicates with vendors on technology decisions to assist the firms goals in implementing world-class  services to our internal and external clients.
  • Collects and reports on key performance indicators and measures system reliability of production systems and services.
  • Prepares and maintains network related documentation, including detailed diagrams and configurations of all production  equipment.
  • Follows department policies and procedures, including change management procedures and policies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested.
  • Prioritizes, manages and reports the status of the workload in a systematic fashion of all production systems.
  • Develops and maintains plans for system projects as well as day-to-day maintenance, ensuring that necessary resources are  available to meet scheduled deadlines of assigned project deliverables.
  • Defines processes for planning, developing, prototyping, piloting, testing and documenting system changes in accordance  with established Workflow Processes.
  • Monitors the network for problems, ensures that problems escalated to the group are handled quickly and according to  policies and procedures as set forth by our clients demands.
  • Manages the use of network related service providers as necessary.
  • Develops Key Performance Indicators and Measures performance and growth to ensure the team' s success and to be used for  feedback from internal and external clients.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested. 


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in voice and/or data communications in a large LAN/WAN environment
  • Extensive knowledge or certifications in communication protocols
  • Provides after hours on-call support on a rotational basis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both data and voice communications.
  • Subject Matter Expert of network operating systems and LAN / WAN protocols.
  • Proven basic project management skills and the ability to communicate workload milestones to the firms Project  Management Staff.
  • Ability to communication clearly and concisely verbally and in writing to include documentation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco hardware and associated IOS operating systems to include, Cisco IOS, NX-OS, IOS-XR,  IOS-XE. 
  • Advanced knowledge of interior and external routing protocols and configuration, including EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, iBGP,  LISP, OTV,  BGP.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cisco hardware platform hardware including the ASR 9000 platform of switching backbone and  fabric.  Cisco 4500, 6500, 2000, and 7000 connecting to the Cisco UCS and compute backbone. FCoE, ISCSI and FC.
  • Knowledge of cross-connect platforms from compute to storage, including but not limited to, NetApp, EMC, Pure and  Hitachi storage platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of system monitoring tool systems and alerting troubleshooting processes. 
  • Tools include Orion  SolarWinds, Splunk, third party managed SIEM providers, PaloAlto Panaramea with WildFire, FireEye, Cisco StealthWatch  and Cisco ASA Next-Generation layer 7 firewalls.
  • Advanced knowledge of wireless technologies and troubleshooting of wireless systems including Aruba wireless controllers  and Access Points.
  • Advanced knowledge of Network Admission Control (NAC) based on certificate based authentication.
  • Avaya switching equipment, CheckPoint firewalls,  LogRythmn, Websense and WebRoot.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Cisco ACI a plus
  • Knowledge of DataDomain, Exagrid, and NetBackup technologies are a plus.
  • In depth knowledge of networking and security equipment a plus.
